2022 Week 8 NFL Picks

Welcome to Week 8 in the NFL What would Week 8 be without the weekly recap of us three idiots’ picks for these games we claim to know a lot about? Well, it would be the same as it is now, except you wouldn’t have this nonsense to read while you are watching your kids’s soccer game, sitting in the husband chair in Kohls or making a deposit on the porcelain throne. No matter what you’re doing, let’s take a look at how BrendawnoftheDead, Concret3Cowboy and I did in Week 7.

Week 7 Records:

Blind Owl: 8-6

Concret3Cowboy: 6-8

BrendawnoftheDead: 7-7

This is by far my best week yet! As a matter of fact, this was a pretty good week overall. The Cowboy had the worst week and he was only 2 games under .500. That’s solid. Our records continued to be not so distant from each other this week, let’s see if that made an impact on the overall standings.

Total Records:

Blind Owl: 45-59-3

Concret3Cowboy: 46-58-3

BrendawnoftheDead: 46-58-3

Whoa there. We have a tie at the top. The Cowboy has led the way for some time now, but Brendawn has made it even. Even me, the guy in last, is only 1 game back. The Cowboy must be feeling the heat from up in New Hampshire and a little bit of heat coming from Northern Mass. Will the Cowboy be able to repel both of us, or will he crumble under the pressure of two strong competitors? Well, have a look at our picks for Week 8:

BAL @ TB: TB -2.0

Blind Owl: I didn’t stick to my word a few weeks ago. But I’m an education professional, I can’t keep lying to myself like I lie to the kids at school. I need to go with my brain. The Bucs have let me down continually this year. Tom Brady seems cooked (finally) and isn’t near what he used to be. He doesn’t want to be in Tampa, and the other players don’t seem to want him there. I think the Ravens will win this one, in a run of the mill, boring TNF game. I sense a big game from Lamar Jackson.

Concret3Cowboy: As a Tom Hater and someone who lives in Tampa (used to live in New England), I love everything happening to Tom Brady. Hard F that guy. At the same time, I can recognize what a Super Bowl winning QB can do to a locker room and how tides can raise all boats. Unfortunately/fortunately (depending where you stand), the tide is low in Tampa. This Tampa team has a lot of veteran leadership and much of their roster together from that Super Bowl team. It just isn’t working anymore, is Bowles that bad at heading a football team? Maybe, but I believe that Bruce Arians is underrated with what he actually brings to the table as a leader (look at him as interim coach in Indy and as the head of the Arizona teams. As for this game, the Ravens have a bad run defense and Tampa has forgotten about their running backs. Will that change tonight? Nope, Ravens win.

BrendawnoftheDead: I'll be brief, the Bucs suck. Ravens no matter what the spread is.

DEN @ JAX: JAX -2.5

Blind Owl: Oh dear god does this one pains me. My Broncos are UNDERDOGS against the JAGS. These are dark, dark, times in Denver. I know it’s not smart, but I just can’t pick the Jags with points against my squad. I’m picking Denver begrudgingly.

Concret3Cowboy: At least I can get my depression over earlier when this game kicks off at 9:30am est. Really sick of Russell Wilson, dude is a tool. He said that he has wolverine blood but then missed a game. Did “work” like calisthenics for 4 hours out of their flight to London. All this wouldn’t matter, but they have a bottom tier offense and are in the bottom 5 in the league record-wise. You can’t be both at the same time and have everything be ok. Jags I suppose, even though Denver did cover against the Chargers and gave me a double whammy last week. I miss Williams in the backfield. Jags, I don’t know.

BrendawnoftheDead: I despise watching Denver, so I will not. I will pick them to win though, their Defense will do just enough.

NE @ NYJ: NE -2.5

Blind Owl: In a conversation with Brendawn covering topics such as Ikea furniture, sectionals, the whereabouts of Mrs. Blind Owl and many other things, Brendawn had this to say: “The Patriots are now like every other team. Significantly mediocre.” It meant a lot to hear that from a Patriots fan. As a non-Patriots fan I say, it’s about time. As for this game, I don’t care if Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe is playing, the Patriots will win by a TD.

Concret3Cowboy: The Pats just got dogwalked by the Bears on Monday Night Football. J-E-T-S

BrendawnoftheDead: Ahhh Patriots, how far we have fallen. I am picking the Jets to win and it's the first time I'm confident the Pats will lose to the Jets since 2001.

CAR @ ATL: ATL -4.0

Blind Owl: Carolina beat the piss out of Tom Brady last week. I think it has more to do with the fact that Tom Brady isn’t getting any action from his wife than Carolina being good. Atlanta is favored by a lot here. This is just two bad teams battling it out. Sometimes these games end up being halfway decent. I’ll pick the Dirty Birds at home.

Concret3Cowboy: Falcons have a slightly better offense and Panthers have an even slightly better defense. I liked Walker at QB and what the Panthers did against the Bucs last week. Now the Bucs did get beat up pretty good by the Ravens on Thursday Night as well. I’m also somewhat partial to the Falcons, I just like how they aren’t good but they don’t care and play good ball. I said it at some point, sometimes when you trade your big ticket player, the rest of the team steps up and you get a better squad. I liked Baker coming into the season but it hasn’t gone well, PJ Walker is a good quarterback. He makes good decisions, he doesn’t have the top end tools like the Allens and Mahomes but he has good tools. I’m taking Carolina for their great pass defense and the lack of air power that Atlanta have.

BrendawnoftheDead: Ignore what you saw last week, Carolina is a bad team. They're in full tank mode and will lose accordingly. Atlanta covers.

CHI @ DAL: DAL -9.5

Blind Owl: Chicago beat the Patriots on Monday night, but I think the Patriots beat themselves. Fields still isn’t very good. Dallas has their starter back. Dak was a little off last week (like the Cowboy said he would be), but picked it up in the later stages of that game. I don’t think the Bears stand a chance. Dak will be firing on all cylinders and that Dallas defense will harass Fields all afternoon. Dallas will win big.

Concret3Cowboy: Quite the spread for a team that just turned some doubters on Monday Night Football. What’s the word with Zeke? Nevermind, it doesn’t matter. RBs don’t matter, especially when you have talent like Pollard in the backfield. I did say I miss Williams, well that is because the Broncos have butterfingers Gordon and AARP Murray in the backfield. I’m going to reach here and say the Bears cover? No, no I don’t. I’m going with the Cowboys. Who people think I’m a fan of anyways over in the Twitter world.

BrendawnoftheDead: I don't trust Dallas to cover here. Losing Zeke actually helps their point scoring but 9.5 is too high. Bears cover.

MIA @ DET: MIA -3.5

Blind Owl: Tua is back, Blind Owl will pick. And Detroit sucks which makes it easier.

Concret3Cowboy: Miami has had a porous pass defense until last week, when they picked off Pickett 3 times. When you look at those picks it’s more on Pickett trying to make the game rather than Miami doing anything to force them. You know I’m going with Detroit, they’re underdogs and I have my rules.

BrendawnoftheDead: Detroit has no defense. Miami has weapons and I need Tua to play well for fantasy purposes. Miami covers.

ARI @ MIN: MIN -3.5

Blind Owl: I still have little faith in Kyler Murray and the Cardinals. I’m looking like a genius by picking the Vikings to win the NFC North. All of those other teams suck up there. I’m going to go with the Vikings in this game which will be an offensive one. Start players from both squads if you have them in fantasy.

Concret3Cowboy: I like Minnesota, and I should especially with them coming off a bye. I am holding my rocks here though. I don’t like that spread. The Cardinals haven’t been that squad people thought they would be and are sitting at 3-4 but you can still feel the hype for them. The back to back pick 6s last week made them look better than they played. Minnesota has the tools to stop the Arizona offense but the fact that the Vikings tend to hide when they have to show makes me nervous in this game. But I’ll take the Vikings here.

BrendawnoftheDead: Cardinals stink, I get burned every time I pick them so Vikings it is. Kingsbury isn't a good coach and that's the big difference here.

LV @ NO: LV -1.5

Blind Owl: Ugh. Raiders I suppose. Only because the Cowboy will pick the Saints.

Concret3Cowboy: Why am I picking the Saints? Why does the Owl think he understands my mind? I don’t even understand my mind! Give me the Saints.

BrendawnoftheDead: I'll flip a coin I guess. Raiders.

PIT @ PHI: PHI -11

Blind Owl: The battle for Pennsylvania isn’t going to be a pretty site. As much as I don’t think Hurts is an elite QB, he’ll put up some serious numbers in this game. The Steelers just can’t keep up and it’ll be over early. Philly BIG.

Concret3Cowboy: Pickett is going to force throws, as rookies do and that will give Philly the ball pretty often. Philly is that type of good team that is going to try to beat you by as much as they can. So I actually like the big spread in this one.

BrendawnoftheDead: Philly is good, Pittsburgh can't get out of their own way. They aren't built to keep up. I feel bad for Najee Harris. Philly in a blowout.

TEN @ HOU: TEN -2.5

Blind Owl: I’ve been saying Davis Mills is decent. It was quite comical that the pick six he threw got me the win in that game. So I’ll go with an old school saying, HOUSTON IS HORRIBLE! Titans all the way.

Concret3Cowboy: Tennessee.. Why are you still here? I don’t have to defend myself.

BrendawnoftheDead: Is this spread a typo!? Houston stinks… on purpose. Tennessee by at least a touchdown.

WAS @ IND: IND -3

Blind Owl: Here we go again. I like Taylor Heinicke. He is totally better than Carson Wentz. Like a lot better. I don’t think he is a world beater, but he is ok. Indy isn’t what they were last year. The line looks awful and Jonathan Taylor isn’t going to last long without space to run. I’m going to hesitantly go with the Commanders in this game.

Concret3Cowboy: Heinicke is not better than Carson Wentz. He has that weird Brett Farve like playstyle, which I do like. But Carson has better tools, period dot. I’ll ride with the Commanders because the Colts are a joke. How many QBs does Frank Reich get before it’s his fault? Matt Ryan is far from the problem in Indy. He’s old, but he’s not the problem.

BrendawnoftheDead: Oh dear, I guess the Commanders? They looked significantly better with Heinicke while the colts have looked kind of bad all year. I think Washington, the worst franchise in professional sports, actually takes this.

SF @ LAR: SF -1.5

Blind Owl: Just like Tom Brady, Matt Stafford’s goose is cooked. That miracle run last year was something to behold and I felt good for Stafford. It seems to be over now. San Fran continues to hang around and could easily win this division. This game is a huge one though. Give me the 9ers.

Concret3Cowboy: I have watched zero Rams games since that week 1 banner drop when they got destroyed by the Bills. I have no idea what is happening in LA. The 49ers did not fare well against the Chiefs last week but I like this team so much better with Jimmy G.

BrendawnoftheDead: SF because they are Stafford's father. No seriously, he's been awful vs SF. LA hasn't exactly wowed this year either.

NYG @ SEA: SEA -3

Blind Owl: The Giants are looking really good this year. The Seahawks have been back and forth. I like the story of Geno Smith but I can never root for Seattle. I know it’s going to be a tough one in that stadium, but the Giants and Saquon Barkley can do it. GO G-MEN!

Concret3Cowboy: This is a tough one. Daboll is going to be coach of the year but Carrol is making a case for himself. Seattle was supposed to be in a rebuilding season but they lead their division, the division that has the defending champs and a 49ers team that everyone thought highly of.. Oh and that team in Arizona that is the NFC version of the Chargers. All hype, no bite. Both really surprising teams, but I’m going to go with the Seahawks here.

BrendawnoftheDead: I have a hard time picking Geno Smith, even though statistically he has been rather good. The Giants find ways to win and that will continue here.

GB @ BUF: BUF -11.5

Blind Owl: The Packer are horrendous. Almost as bad as Houston. Except Houston’s QB isn’t a douchebag. Buffalo by a gross. That’s 144 for those who don’t know…

Concret3Cowboy: Imagine having a QB like Aaron Rodgers and being at a +11.5 spread. Wild season this has been. Buffalo is going to be ready to go after their bye. They are not going to play nice. Another big spread that I like.

BrendawnoftheDead: This is a huge spread, but you know what? The Packers can't score and Buffalo has no issues in that department. Buffalo covers.

CIN @ CLE: CIN -3.5

Blind Owl: Chase being out is going to hurt Cincy. Like him or not, he is an absolute game changer. I honestly think Burrow wouldn’t be much without him for an extended period of time. Burrow had some horrid moments even with Chase early this year. Lucky for him he gets to start his Chase-less stretch with the Browns. Cincy will win this one easily but the future is bleak for Burrow for a while.

Concret3Cowboy: Burrow did some work against the Falcons last week. I think the Bengals are going to be ok without Chase. Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd aren’t exactly bad receivers. Ward, the Browns best cornerback, might not even play in this game. It really boils down to how well that Browns pass rush gets off. I see the Bengals winning by a TD here.

BrendawnoftheDead: Cincy. The Browns aren't good so I feel no need to elaborate further.
